Terms of Service
Service provider
The services on this site are provided under the brand Alfa Translators by Zhaklin Petrova Zhekova-Stamboliyska, address Levski V 2, 1836 Sofia, Bulgaria, phone +359 890 425 520, email office@alfatranslators.com.
What we offer
We offer written translation of documents and texts, including general, specialised (legal, technical, medical, financial) and personal documents. For a translation intended for legalisation or apostille, we work through a partner holding a valid contract with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We don't hold that contract ourselves. The partner certifies the translation, and where notarial certification is needed, we arrange it through a notary. For orders requiring legalisation or apostille, we submit the documents to the relevant institution and pay the state fees on your behalf, to be reimbursed by you at cost.
Ordering and how pricing works
To place an order, send us the document through the site's form, by email or by phone, and we'll send you a quote. The order counts as placed once you confirm the quote in writing (by email, message, or in person). Prices depend on the volume and type of text, so we work with a clear calculation method rather than one fixed number: a rate per standard page of 1,800 characters including spaces of the translated text, a surcharge of €5 per page for specialised text, a minimum order of €15, urgency surcharges (+50% for next working day, +100% for same-day), and volume discounts (–7% from 40 pages, –12% from 100 pages). For common documents (birth, marriage and death certificates, criminal-record certificates, driving licences) we use a fixed price of €15 for translation; a diploma without supplement is €20; a diploma with supplement is from €45, with the supplement priced per page. Legalisation through the partner is from €25 per document, and state fees are charged separately, at cost, since they're set by the relevant institution, not by us.
Payment
We accept payment by bank transfer or cash at the office, by prior arrangement. We don't accept online card payment. For orders involving legalisation, the state fees and the handling fee are paid before the documents are submitted, since the institutions require payment upfront. For translation-only orders, payment is due on delivery of the finished translation. For orders over €150, we require a 50% advance payment.
Turnaround times
We usually translate a standard document within 1–2 working days; larger texts are agreed specifically in the quote. Legalisation through the partner typically takes 5–10 working days, depending on the institution. Apostille is issued by the competent authority and usually takes several working days. All timelines are typical, not guaranteed. The actual time depends on the institution, the volume of text, and how quickly you respond to any questions we have.
Right of withdrawal: individual clients
If you're ordering as an individual for personal, non-business purposes, an order placed through the site, by email or by phone is a distance contract under the Consumer Protection Act (ЗЗП), and in principle you have a 14-day right of withdrawal. That right is lost, though, once the translation has been fully carried out and delivered, provided you gave express consent for work to start immediately before we began and confirmed that you understood you'd lose the right of withdrawal as a result. We take that consent when you confirm the order. On top of that, every translation is produced against the specific document you provide, which by its nature is a service made to individual order. If you cancel after work has started but before you've received the finished translation, you owe a proportional part of the price for the work actually done.
Right of withdrawal: business clients
If you're ordering on behalf of a business or in the course of your trade or profession, you're not a consumer under ЗЗП, and the withdrawal-right chapter doesn't apply to you. Cancellation terms in that case are whatever we agreed when you confirmed the order. By default we apply the same principle of paying for work actually done, unless we've agreed otherwise in writing. See also the "Cancellation & Refunds" page.
Liability and accuracy
We prepare translations professionally, based on the document you give us. We're not responsible for errors, omissions, or illegibility in the original document. We can't guarantee that a given translation, apostille, or legalisation will be accepted by a particular foreign authority, embassy, employer, or university. Acceptance criteria are set by the receiving institution, not by us.
Confidentiality
We use the content of your document solely to prepare the translation you ordered. We share it only as far as that specific order requires: with the legalisation partner and/or a notary, when the order calls for it.
Complaints and dispute resolution
If you have a complaint, write to us at office@alfatranslators.com. We look into every complaint and reply as quickly as we can. If you're a consumer under ЗЗП and we can't reach an agreement, you can turn to the General Conciliation Commission at the Consumer Protection Commission (КЗП).
Governing law
These terms are governed by Bulgarian law. For consumer clients, the Consumer Protection Act also applies. Bulgarian courts, and the relevant consumer-protection bodies, have jurisdiction.
