Cancellation & Refunds

What this page covers

This page describes what happens if you cancel a translation or legalisation order. It isn't about returning goods: we translate documents, we don't ship products that get sent back.

Cancelling before work has started

If you cancel before we've started translating, we refund the full deposit you paid. The exception is any state fee we've already paid to the relevant institution on your behalf and which that institution doesn't refund (see the section below).

Cancelling after work has started, before delivery

If you cancel after we've started but before you've received the finished translation, you owe payment proportional to the work already done, for example the pages already translated, or steps already taken with the partner or notary. Example: you order a translation of a document of 5 standard pages and cancel after 3 pages have been translated. You pay for those 3 pages, and the rest of your deposit is returned.

Cancelling after full delivery

Once the translation is finished and delivered, we don't refund the translation fee, because the service has been fully performed with your prior consent. This doesn't affect your right to ask for an error to be corrected (see below).

Errors and corrections

If there's an error in the translation that we or our partner are responsible for, we correct it free of charge. That's different from changes you want for reasons unrelated to an error, and different from a receiving institution rejecting the document for reasons unrelated to translation accuracy (for example formatting requirements). Those cases aren't covered by the free correction.

State fees

State fees for apostille or legalisation are set by the relevant institution and are usually non-refundable once paid, regardless of what happens to the rest of the order.

Complaints

If you disagree with how your cancellation or refund was handled, write to office@alfatranslators.com. We look into it and reply as quickly as we can. If you're a consumer and we can't reach an agreement, you can turn to the General Conciliation Commission at КЗП. See also the Terms of Service.

Business clients

If you're ordering as a business or in the course of your trade, the cancellation terms are whatever was agreed when the order was confirmed. By default we apply the same principle (payment for work actually done) unless we've agreed otherwise in writing.
